A fairer price for your fare?

Travelling by taxi can be expensive especially when you are in another country.  I must admit while I do a lot of travelling abroad, I have never had to (as yet) get a taxi.

However, other than either haggling with the taxi driver or paying upfront what else can you do?

Well, there is a way in the shape of a new application from Android apps as well as an iOS application.  I believe a Windows version is also going to be available in the near future.

The app is called A-Rix Meter, and it apparently gives you the chance to see what a fair price should be for a particular route.  What’s more, it is a very useful alternative when you don’t have a map of where you are going.  Google Maps are very good but they are not always reliable in areas such as towns and villages in countries such as India or Pakistan.

The application uses GPS technology to try and accurately work out what the cost should be between the start and finish of your journey.  Apparently there is built into the app, information relating to fare rates based on the cost per kilometre.  Consequently, the app is able to work out what should be a proper and fair price for the destination.

Interestingly, because the app uses GPS location technology, it is able to keep you up-to-date on where you are, and keep tabs on the cost.  This can even be run in the background while carrying out other tasks.

A very useful app indeed for the avid traveller.
