One of Ireland’s well known children’s online stores – Belle & Rollo – is a convert to Google Apps.
Started in 2010 by husband and wife team, Michael and Carla Wejchert, Belle & Rollo offers a unique range of children’s and family items. However, as an online business rather than a traditional shop, it had to make sure that whatever system it used was both suitable and efficient.
According to Michael, Google Apps for Business was the only candidate worth considering. He told Googleenterprise.blogspot.co.uk: “I had come from a business with over 2,000 users on a Microsoft Exchange system and was familiar with the various issues of cost, maintenance and reliability that affected our day to day communications systems.” He claimed that with having a small start-up business, he needed to avoid the problems he had previously witnessed.
That is the point, really. Google allows businesses of all types – small as well as large – to compete on a level playing field. Costs are minimal if not free whereas traditional IT systems are costly to invest in and maintain.
Not just that, you invariably have to posses some technical knowledge. However, as Google offers a cloud-based service, businesses such as Belle & Rollo don’t need to know anything about the technical aspects of IT. This leaves them free to do what they know best, namely run a business.
Michael added: “…We needed to have accounts covering email, calendar and contacts that were accessible from anywhere, especially when working from mobile devices. Increasing the number of users quickly is also important for us as our business grows.”
