While it could be argued that Australia is something of an outpost, in reality it is one nation that has avidly embraced cloud computing. What’s more, growing numbers of Australian businesses are switching away from their traditional IT systems to Google Apps for Business.
One such company to switch is Mortgage Choice, the largest independent mortgage chain in Australia. A franchise operation, Mortgage Choice has over 350 offices throughout the country with more than 1,000 users.
Speaking with googleenterprise.blogspot.co.uk, Peter Hermann, who I believe is the parent company’s solution architect, said: “In IT, we are constantly challenged by the ongoing overhead of installing, upgrading, storing, supporting and maintaining installed software across a geographically dispersed environment.”
He added: “Prior to our transition to Google Apps we diligently kept our users’ software up-to-date and met system and service SLAs, but simply meeting our service obligations does not necessarily add value!”
Although Mortgage Choice is a franchise company rather than one that directly employs people, it is still nevertheless important for the parent company to be able to communicate effectively with its franchisees.
It also has to be realised that while someone is running their own business as a franchisee, the latter must also follow procedures designed by the parent business.
Traditionally this would have been done via post or basic email services. This, I think would be very expensive nowadays. However, by using Google Apps for Business communication is faster and more efficient, not to mention cost effective.
This shows the versatility of the Google Apps system in particular, as well as cloud in general.
