A new Chrome extension

Are you a user of Zoho Office?

If you are, then I think you will be interested to know that this product is now integrated into Google Apps; more specifically Google Drive.

However, it isn’t integrated in the way you might think, namely a direct link.  Rather, I understand it is a Chrome extension.

So, if you prefer to use Zoho to write your documents rather than GDocs but want to store them on Google’s storage system, then this should now be possible.

One of the main criticisms laid at Google’s door is that while the applications are great there are limitations in that it is difficult to try other products.  So, it is great to see that someone had the foresight to try and link their own product, in this case Zoho Office, with Google.

Why has Zoho done this?

From what I gather it has more to do with taking on the competition, in particular Microsoft, than anything else.  Ironically, Microsoft only recently announced that the latest version of its popular Office suite will now incorporate a number of Google’s applications.

So, I’m assuming that Zoho wants to try and offset this new Microsoft marketing ploy before it gets off the ground.  Moreover, Zoho is a company that targets the business community rather than private individuals.

If successful, then not only will Zoho be helping itself but also Google.  The former currently has just six million users, while four million businesses use Google Apps.

Microsoft might have been the future once, but that role appears to have been grabbed by Google.
