New job search app launched.

A new app that helps small- and medium-sized businesses find the right applicant for a particular job has been launched.

Called Ovation, the idea is for employers to search social networks looking for potential recruits.

I have to say, this is a little different from the traditional job search systems that are generally aimed at job hunters rather than employers.  Yes, I know there are websites that bring the two together, but I don’t know of one that actively searches for possible employees.

Ovation is available as a Google application, or more particularly Android, and can be downloaded from Google Apps Marketplace.  It connects with the notice boards on Twitter, Monster, Facebook and Linkedin.  The latter is perhaps a little more apt as it is a professional and business network, whereas the other social network sites tend to be more social than business-oriented.

With that in mind, I am rather surprised that other business networks are not included in Ovation.  Perhaps this will change as these other sites discover its existence and vice versa.

Speaking with eweek.com, Pete VanSon, CEO and co-founder of Ovation Technologies, the company behind the app said: “Most small businesses don’t have full-time recruiters or even an HR department and find finding and hiring employees to be a daunting and distracting task.”

Mr. VanSon added: “They’re trying to grow their business and serve their customers.  By putting the power of cloud recruiting into the hands of the business owners, we’re giving them a competitive advantage to find, perform background checks and bring onboard the best talent as quickly as possible…”
